Annual Brigade
We traveled to Honduras during June - July of 2026 for a week during which we provided medical care and training across multiple areas and communities. This year the OCHO teams saw approximately 700 patients who traveled from multiple communities in the Santa Barbara area to Atima, Concepción Sur, Nuevo Celilac and San Vicente Centenario. The multispecialty clinics included pediatrics, internal medicine, rheumatology, obstetrics-gynecology, dermatology, and rehabilitation. Ophthalmology
Ninety five patients were serviced under this specialty alone during our time in Honduras.
Rehab Team
The Rehab team evaluated 35 pediatric patients across three clinical sites and delivered educational lectures across several topics. In addition, the Rehab team worked alongside UNAH students during the brigade to partner with communities in Atima, Concepcion Sur and San Vicente. OCHO helped to identify resources for the patients and develop treatment plans. The UNAH students practiced clinical skills with the OCHO team providing guidance/mentoring to further their learning.
Pediatrics
The 2026 Pediatric team participating in the 2026 OCHO bridge consisted of three Pediatricians (Rachel
Cane, MD, Michelle Melicosta, MD, and Peter Gergen, MD) and a Pediatric nurse (Sheilagh Franiak, RN).
Together the Pediatric team evaluated, diagnosed, and treated 138 patients. .
Dermatology
The dermatology team witnessed so many cases of skin cancer while in Honduras. Mercy and Rachel spent time seeing many patients, teaching the local physicians and doing much needed surgery.
